my opinion on my last post

i would like to point out that in no way are the three potential approaches [that i described below] mutually exclusive.

i think it would be awesome if we could mesh two or all three of them together, but it would be challenging, and perhaps outside one class's feasibility.

i feel like the second idea, plotting out media relationships, is the most interesting to me from an anthropological standpoint, but finding the exact use for a map like that, other than being 'interesting,' might be a little elusive...

what good does it tell us [or the government, or the Central Square community?] that two employees at CheapoRecords on Mass Ave sometimes hang out at Middlesex at night for drinks, but what they really absolutely love is going to the McDonald's down the street for vanilla fro yo after work?

if we were to gather enough data, we might encounter difficulties with quantifying/standardizing/organizing all of the information, and especially if we cannot objectively survey all of the 'creative' people from the area - i.e. 2 artists from here shop at trader joe's, vs.  5 people from this company prefer whole foods?  [i guess we could draw a thicker line to whole foods...]

it seems to me to stand by itself as an intriguing anthropological observational study, as opposed to a media map that would be immediately useful to another party.
