The Interface
Since a media map has already been created in Brisbane, we should definitely use it as a guide. However, looking at this map, there are definitely alterations that we should implement. First off, as mentioned in class, the map should be the main focus of the page. In the Brisbane map, the map is generally in the upper right corner. Furthermore, when you click on one of the media options on the left side of the screen, a list of companies shows up. This interface should be changed so that when one clicks on an option the entire map shows up displaying the businesses. Displaying the page in this way would allow one to visualize where the companies are situated. Another option would be to color code each type of industry, which would allow the user to browse more than one industry and see how these sectors of the interact in one area.
Another question that must be decided is how we will actually do the programming for this project. Does one of us know how to make web pages? I for one do not, but perhaps one of you does. Should we get someone who's not in the class to help us (if none of us knows how to do this)?
The Content
Since the governor's office is interested in this project, we should definitely at least send an email to get some input. Doing this will expand our project into a site that the community can use and will ensure the support of more than just our class. Some questions to ask would be, who are we catering this project towards? Is it for potential workers in the creative industry? What area is of interest to the governor? Of course, for us, it would be easier to focus on central square.
I do like the idea of looking at several companies and seeing how they branch into the community. Perhaps someone who is starting their own company could see what they need in order to support it.
Creative Industry
Since there has already been a project that analyzed the media sector of the creative industry, it might be beneficial to focus on another area. This could actually be a question that we ask the governor as well. It might be interesting to focus on the music industry, since there are night clubs and hence dj's in central.
